Birth Name: Ayanna Berkshire-CruseBirth Place: Portland, OregonBirthday: January 16thNickname: Yani From an early age, Ayanna demonstrated a love for acting and performing and begged for dance lessons, almost as soon as she could talk. When she was 2 ½, she and her mother moved to an artistic community on a small island in Washington State where she found her passion in theater productions and dance. Her performing continued from her one-room school house, through to high school on the mainland, where she was elected president of the drama club and class clown respectively. Ayanna began her working career as a car hop, at the local drive-in, and as an apprentice baker in the local French bakery. Her lifestyle was very active throughout her school years incorporating drama, boating, hiking, bicycling, roller-blading and snowboarding whenever she had the opportunity. When she graduated from high school, her sense of adventure took her to France as an au pair for a wealthy family. Unfortunately, after only 6 weeks on the job, she was let go and found herself couch-surfing in Paris with no money and no job. In a fortuitous chain of events, she was essentially adopted by a wonderful community of struggling photographers, actors and models and was able to experience the Paris fashion industry from an insider's perspective. She also became fluent in French and developed a passion for cooking. Her time in Paris, gave her the confidence to begin modeling and working as stylist for fashion photography. Once she returned to the states, she modeled for renowned photographer, Robert Scott, and used her knowledge of the fashion industry to land a job as an assistant modeling agent in Hawaii and then in Portland, OR. On the side she modeled for many retail/catalog companies and dabbled in promotional modeling, extra work and television infomercials, where she was featured in ongoing ads for Eureka, Murad, Lifeline and others. In 1999, she made a commitment to begin studying acting full-time in Portland, Oregon. She began auditioning for live theater, commercials, and small roles in movies, anything that would give her experience in the industry she loved. As her skills grew, so did her level of opportunities, making her one of the most highly regarded and continuously booked actors in the industry. She's had roles in such projects as, Twilight, TNTs Leverage, Extraordinary Measures, Wendy and Lucy, The Dust Factory and Say Uncle. She is currently playing the role of Dr. Rose in NBCs new series, GRIMM. Ayanna is known for her twisted sense of humor, her professional work ethic, her community mindedness, compassion and her perseverance. She approaches every job she does with a goal of perfection and optimum performance, while highly valuing the relationships she builds along the way. Trivia: • Ayanna is a skilled Salsa dancer• Brother is a rap performer in the San Diego area under the name of Kalibur/DieNasty Records.• Father, is a musician and played the part of the leader of a reggae band in an episode of Portlandia.• Ayanna can be seen briefly in the Season 8 premiere of Curb Your Enthusiasm where she helps stop Larry Davids bleeding nose with a feminine hygiene product.• Was the Izzys Pizza girl for two years of ongoing ads. She received pizza and $100 for her photo shoot.• In 2004 was a member of the world record breaking team for number of people to fit into a classic British Mini as a promotion for a film, The Good Lot. They set the Guinness Record at 21.
